- June – August: This is the most popular time to visit! The warmer weather is more suitable for rafting, kayaking, and swimming in the Youghiogheny River.
- September – Early November: Ideal if you are looking for a quieter visit. The changing colors of the leaves create a stunning backdrop for hiking and photography. The weather is cooler, making it comfortable for exploring the outdoors.
- December – March: Activities like cross-country skiing and snowshoeing are popular. However, it’s essential to check the availability of certain areas of the park as some might be closed due to weather conditions.
Where to Stay

- Ohiopyle Suites offers 10 studio units and 5 condo units within walking distance of all that Ohiopyle State Park has to offer. They have a communal fire pit area and pavilion area with a gas grill. Ohiopyle Suites is also dog friendly!

Best Trails in Ohiopyle State Park
Meadow Run Trail
This hike is about 3 miles long with 433 feet of elevation gain. Meadow Run Trail is considered a moderate trail on AllTrails. This trail is definitely a must do hike when visiting Ohiopyle. It has views of two waterfalls as well as a natural water slide along the trail. Parking at the trailhead does fill up quickly, so it is best to get there early!
Jonathan Run Trail
This is an easy 2.5 mile hike with 193 feet of elevation gain. You will be able to see the waterfalls from the trail, but if you want to get to the base of the falls you will need to use caution maneuvering down a steep unofficial trail.
Ferncliff Trail
This 1.8 mile trail on the Ferncliff Peninsula has about 137 feet of elevation gain. It offers great views of the Youghiogheny River and the Ohiopyle Falls. Keep your eyes peeled while on this trail. You may spot some fossils as well as the foundation of a hotel and resort.

Ohiopyle Falls lie at the heart of Ohiopyle State Park. This waterfall spans the width of the Youghiogheny River with a 20 foot drop. There is an observation deck that is wheelchair accessible located near the parking lot on Main St. While you are here, check out the Visitors Center!
Cucumber Falls
Cucumber Falls is a definite must see while visiting Ohiopyle State Park. It has a 30 foot drop over a ledge which means you can go behind the veil! The observation deck for Cucumber falls is not wheelchair accessible. There are a few steps leading to it.
Whitewater Rafting
Whitewater rafting is available on both the lower and middle sections of the Youghiogheny River. If you are seeking a thrill, you will want to raft down the lower section as it offers class III – V rapids. If you are wanting a more relaxing ride, the middle section has class I and II.
