If you are looking for adventure and amazing views, La Fortuna is a must visit during your trip to Costa Rica!
Where to Stay
If you want the best view of the Arenal Volcano, then you have to stay at Arenal Kioro Suites & Spa. This is a green friendly hotel located 10 minutes outside of La Fortuna. The panoramic views of the volcano are unmatched. Amenities include in room hot tubs, heated hot spring pools, spa, free admission to Titoku hot springs, pool, two restaurants, and two bars. Breakfast is included during your stay and this was by far the best breakfast that we had while in Costa Rica.
Day 1 – Organic Coffee Farm Tour
There are several options available to tour coffee farms. We visited Vida Campesina which was booked through Jacamar tours. Our tour was so much more than coffee!! We were able to sample so many fruits and spices along the tour. The tour guide was extremely knowledgeable. We also learned about coffee production and the role it has played in the Costa Rican economy. The tour ended with enjoying some Costa Rican coffee alongside some delicious food made with ingredients from the farm.
Day 2 – Hanging Bridges Tour
Ecoterra provides a great hanging bridges tour. Our guide was fantastic! The hanging bridges tour is a two mile walk where you will cross 15 bridges. We were able to see a diverse array of animals, that included howler monkeys!
Day 3 – White Water Rafting
The Rio Balsa offers a great opportunity to beginners to check out white water rafting. The class 2 – 3 rapids are challenging enough to make it a fun excursion for those with little to no rafting experience. Our tour was through Wave Expeditions.
Where To Eat
I highly recommend checking out both of the restaurants at Arenal Kioro. We found Orquideas to be the perfect lunch spot! Enjoy some fantastic quesadillas while taking in the view of the volcano. It is located next to the pool so you can take a dip after lunch. Heliconias is where the breakfast buffet is served. You will also want to make sure that you come back for dinner. You will not be disappointed. If you are looking to enjoy a dinner in La Fortuna make sure that you check out Don Rufino. This is an open air restaurant with amazing food.
