Jim Thorpe is a picturesque town in the south Poconos.  It was originally named Mauch Chunk, meaning Bear Place.  Jim Thorpe was known for its coal mining, as well as being the burial location for Native American Olympic medalist, Jim Thorpe.

Our trip to Jim Thorpe was a part of a weekend trip in the Poconos.  As with most of our adventures, our day in Jim Thorpe revolved around the outdoors and food.  Our day started with Muggles mug, followed by a walk on the Lehigh Gorge Trail to an abandoned tunnel, while finishing with lunch at Stone Row Pub & Eatery.

Muggles Mug

Muggles Mug is a magical Harry Potter themed coffee shop located on Broadway in Jim Thorpe.  You will find delicious drinks with names like The Phoenix, Mandrake Maple Delight, Butterbrew, and The Hallows.  Sit back and relax with your drink while watching some Harry Potter.  Your pups are even welcome to join you!  Check them out at www.muggletsmug.com.

Lehigh Gorge Trail

We utilize AllTrails before heading out on our hikes. It is a great way to see the difficulty of hikes and you can grab directions that will take you right to the trailhead.

The Lehigh Gorge Trail is a 24-mile point to point trail between Jim Thorpe and White Haven.  It’s a great trail for a leisurely bike ride.  If you don’t want to haul your bicycle, you can rent them in town.  We chose to do a smaller walk to the nearby abandoned Turn Hole tunnel.  We started at the large parking area located by the train station.  If you aren’t interested in walking to the tunnel there is a closer parking area near the tunnel.  I recommend bringing a headlamp or flashlight.  Our flashlights on our phones were a poor choice of light source when walking through the tunnel.

Stone Row Pub & Eatery

Stone Row is a boutique pub with amazing dishes!  They offer a variety of items that include plant-based, gluten free, and vegan options.  I highly recommend getting the pesto grilled chicken salad sandwich.  It was the most amazing chicken salad I have ever consumed!!  Chicken salad isn’t normally something I rave about, but this sandwich was definitely rave worthy!!  The bangkok bowl and deviled eggs were also delicious!  Check them out at www.stoneroweatery.com.
